Chassagne-Montrachet ligt direct ten zuiden van Puligny-Montrachet. Chassagne deelt de Grand Crus Le Montrachet en Batard-Montrachet, maar heeft wel zijn eigen Grand Cru in de vorm van Croits-Batard-Montrachet. Naast fantastische witte wijnen maakt men in Chassagne ook rode wijn alhoewel de productie snel afneemt omdat de witte wijn meer opbrengt. Deze is dan ook van een uitzonderlijk niveau en in vergelijking met die van Puligny wellicht wat rijker en toegankelijker in stijl. Mocht u een keer in Chassagne zijn, dan adviseer ik u in het gelijknamige restaurant te lunchen. Chef Stéphane Léger is bijzonder getalenteerd en rekent bijzonder schappelijk prijzen. De wijnkaart is hier fenomenaal. Chassagne vestigt diverse topproducenten waarvan Ramonet en Niellon veruit de beroemdste zijn. Een nieuwe ster hier is Vincent Dancer.

Chassagne-Montrachet "les Houillères", Ente (Benoit) 2008 De Chassagne-Montrachet is een nieuwe wijn van Benoit Ente. De wijn is afkomstig van de akker “Les Houillières”die ligt aan de noordkant van de appellation op de grens met Puligny-Montrachet. De wijn combineert prachtig het volle, zachte karakter van een Chassagne met de mineraliteit en finesse van een Puligny-Montrachet. Een fantastische wijn die nu al heerlijk smaakt.

Vines are 85 years old, just below Bâtard-Montrachet, and his oldest vines. Quite deep, clay soils. Really quite rich as well as vibrant on the nose. Still very tight and closed. Very firm on the palate. But with great line through it. Real density".

Round on entry, then juicy, spicy and tight in the middle and quite firm on the back end. A ripe pineapple flavor is firmed by oak spices and solid mineral spine. I might have picked this for a 2007 example. 90-92 points".

Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru, Niellon 2007 Burghound; "A highly nuanced and layered nose frames elegant, expressive and densely fruited white flower and peach aromas plus strikingly rich and powerful full-bodied flavors that possess so much dry extract that like the Chevalier, this is almost painfully intense. The acid/fruit balance is especially impressive and despite the size and weight, like many examples in 2007, this is actually quite refined. In a word, marvelous".
