Chassagne-Montrachet ligt direct ten zuiden van Puligny-Montrachet. Chassagne deelt de Grand Crus Le Montrachet en Batard-Montrachet, maar heeft wel zijn eigen Grand Cru in de vorm van Croits-Batard-Montrachet. Naast fantastische witte wijnen maakt men in Chassagne ook rode wijn alhoewel de productie snel afneemt omdat de witte wijn meer opbrengt. Deze is dan ook van een uitzonderlijk niveau en in vergelijking met die van Puligny wellicht wat rijker en toegankelijker in stijl. Mocht u een keer in Chassagne zijn, dan adviseer ik u in het gelijknamige restaurant te lunchen. Chef Stéphane Léger is bijzonder getalenteerd en rekent bijzonder schappelijk prijzen. De wijnkaart is hier fenomenaal. Chassagne vestigt diverse topproducenten waarvan Ramonet en Niellon veruit de beroemdste zijn. Een nieuwe ster hier is Vincent Dancer.

Chassagne-Montrachet "les Houillères", Benoit Ente 2009
Sinds enkele jaren maakt Benoit ook enkele vaatjes Chassagne-Montrachet. De druiven zijn afkomstig van de akker “les Houillères”die vlak bij de grens met Puligny ligt. De wijn combineert de volheid en toegankelijkheid van een Chassagne met de finesse en mineraliteit van een Puligny.

Feels heavy in the glass! Not much nose but no shortage of weight. A little stolid and carthorsey but lots of delivery. Full and powerful. Lots of impact. Not refined but a big powerful monster. Still quite chewy on the end. Savoury finish.

Deep dense greenish gold. Very rich. More concentration than in the Leflaives on the nose. Lemony and nervy with real density. Real solidity. Long. Very seductive. Quite open and lots of extract.

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées "Clos de la Truffière", Niellon 2009
The old vines in the Clos de la Truffière have produced the most complete premier cru in the Niellon cellars in 2009, which of course is not surprising. The nose is deep, pure and beautifully complex, as it jumps from the glass in a blend of apples, oranges, very complex soil tones, spring flowers, a touch of youthful Niellon herbaceousness, citrus peel and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very long, with lovely focus and balance, a nice core of pure fruit, sound acids and fine focus on the long, soil-driven and complex finish. Fine juice. 2014-2030+. 92+.

The Chassagne Remilly is utterly delicious, displaying intense medium-bodied flavours and the kind of Puligny-esque brightness you’d expect from a stony vineyard tight to Chevalier-Montrachet. Pierre-Yves adores the quality of fruit here, the very concentrated small berries; “there is amazing potential in this wine”.

The Vide-Bourse lays downslope from Bâtard-Montrachet, next to Ancégnières. Denser, more muscular perhaps, but again an absolute gem and far too impressive to refuse; a mini-Bâtard of verve, class and ample concentration. An exceptional Chassagne Premier Cru, in a brilliant and exciting range.

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Caillerets, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey 2009
De "Caillerets" van Pierre-Yves is van van een klasse apart en behoort jaarlijks tot de vijf beste premier crus van Chassagne-Montrachet. Very dense – almost cloudy. Really quite rich for a Caillerets on the nose already. Quite supple. Lemon cream and mineral lift. Very positive with lots of extract. Relatively open. Tingly and lively. Tense.
