Méo-CamuzetJean-Nicolas Méo wordt algemeen beschouwd als één van de allerbeste producenten van rode Bourgognes. Zijn wijnen hebben een unieke stijl. Ze bezitten een sensuele fluwelen structuur, complexiteit, rijkdom, diepgang en een betoverend parfum. Ze doen sterk denken aan de wijnen van de onlnags overleden Henri Jayer (volgens velen de grootste wijnmaker uit de moderne geschiedenis van de Bourgogne). Dit is niet vreemd, van Jayer leerde Jean Méo het vak en hij was lange tijd verbonden als adviseur bij Méo-Camuzet. De familie Camuzet is al enkele generaties eigenaar van enkele van de hoogst aangeschreven wijngaarden in en om het dorp Vosne-Romanée. In totaal zo’n 12 hectare, verdeeld over enkele van de meest illustere akkers van de gehele Bourgogne (Clos de Vougeot, Corton, Richebourg, Echézeaux en diverse premiers crus in Vosne-Romanée en Nuits-Saint-Georges).

Bourgogne Rouge, Méo-Camuzet 2009
De Bourgogne Rouge van Méo is van een uitzonderlijk niveau. Dat heeft verschillende oorzaken. Ten eerste krijgt de wijn een vinificatie en opvoeding die identiek is aan die van de grote crus (rijping van zo’n 16 maanden op eerste klas eikenhouten vaatjes en botteling zonder filtering). Daarnaast komt een aanzienlijk deel van het druivenmateriaal voor deze Bourgogne Rouge uit akkers binnen de vermaarde gemeenten Nuits-Saint-Georges en Vosne-Romanée. En dat proef je meteen. Zeer expressief en verfijnd Pinot-bouquet. Volle, intens diepe, maar zijdezachte smaak, in typerende Méo-stijl.

Beperkt leverbaar!
Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Clos Saint-Philibert, Méo-Camuzet 2008
De wijngaard Clos Saint-Philibert ligt hoger in de heuvels binnen de gemeente Flagey op slechts een steenworp afstand van de beroemde Grand Cru Echézeaux. Jean Méo besloot deze akker in 1990 om te planten naar Chardonnay vanwege het relatief koelere klimaat. Een verstandige keuze want inmiddels levert deze een verrukkelijke en bijzonder fraaie witte Bourgogne die doet denken aan een Corton-Charlemagne. Deze wijn van de oogt 2006 smaakt nu al verrukkelijk. Vanzelfsprekend kan hij ook de nodige jaren worden opgelegd. Een absolute aanrader!

Hautes Côtes de Nuits "Clos Saint-Philibert", Méo-Camuzet 2009
John Gilman: "The 2009 Clos St. Philibert blanc was showing quite well at the time of my visit, as it offers up a lovely combination of ripe and pure fruit with a nice base of white soil tones and bright acidity. The nose delivers a very pretty blend of lemon, apple, chalky soil tones and spring flowers. On the palate the wine is medium-full, fresh and vibrant, with fine framing acids and quite good backend length and mid-palate amplitude. A very tasty bottle that will drink well right out of the blocks."

Marsannay, Méo-Camuzet 2009
Sinds de oogst van 1999 maakt Méo-Camuzet jaarlijks enkele vaten Marsannay. De wijn combineert het aardse karakter van de wijnen uit het noordelijke deel van de Côtes de Nuits met de verfijning en het sensuele karakter van de wijnen van Méo. Jean Méo is overtuigd van het grote potentieel in Marsannay en dat proef je in deze verrukkelijke wijn.

Afkomstig van een wijngaard die is gelegen op de helling. Burghound: “Here the nose is earthier still with equally fresh violet and red pinot fruit aromas that introduce nicely voluminous flavors that possess plenty of Fixin character but only a touch of rusticity on the persistent finish.”

Burghound: "Reduction hides the nose though there is good energy to the lightly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess a rich but detailed, balanced, focused and linear finish. A delicious effort that needs to develop more overall depth to reach the top end of my estimated range."

Fantasische Nuits-Saint-Georges Villages afkomstig van zeer oude stokken (60+jaar). Burghound: "A completely different nose offers up notes of plum, humus and intense soil tones that also characterize the rich, round and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that possess good depth on the solidly persistent finish. The tannins are riper than in the Vosne and with no dryness".

Nuits-Saint-Georges, Méo-Camuzet 2009
John Gilman: "Whereas all of the previous village wines have been négociant bottlings, this and the Vosne AC are the domaine’s own fruit. The result is a wine that is deeper, more structured and a bit less ripe than the village wines made from purchased fruit. The nose is a fine, reserved blend of black cherries, dark berries, raw cocoa, a bit of bonfire, espresso, soil tones and spicy oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very minerally, with ripe tannins, fine focus and grip and a very long, fairly structured finishthat closes with a nice note of bitter chocolate. Good juice and a bit less ripely buxom than the other village wines to this point. 2016-2035. 90+."
