Jean-Marie FourrierHet Domaine Fourrier heeft een lange geschiedenis in Gevrey-Chambertin. Sinds 1994 is de leiding in handen van Jean-Marie Fourier. Jean-Marie werkte eerder voor Domaine Drouhin in Oregan en doorliep diverse stages bij Henri Jayer. Hij wordt bijgestaan door zijn zus Isabelle en zijn Engelse vrouw Vicki. Fourrier bezit een tiental hectare waarvan het overgrote deel ligt binnen de gemeente Gevrey-Chambertin. Daarnaast bezit hij enkele percelen in Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny en Vougeot. Een groot deel hiervan is beplant met oude stokken. De Fourrier is eigenaar van een hectare zeer oude stokken binnen de beroemde cru Clos Saint-Jacques. Daarnaast bezit men ook een perceel binnen de Grand Cru Griotte-Chambertin. De zijn werkwijze van Fourrier is niet biodynamisch alhoewel er veel overeenkomsten zijn. De wijngaarden worden met uiterste zorg bewerkt en mede door de oude stokken en het strenge snoeien liggen de opbrengsten opvallend laag. In de kelder gaat men uiterst behoedzaam te werk. Nadat er een tweede selectie heeft plaats gevonden op de “table de tri” worden de druiven volledig ontsteelt. De vinificatie gebeurt uitsluitend met natuurlijke gisten. Rijping vindt plaats op eiken houten vaatjes waarvan jaarlijks zo’n 20% wordt vernieuwd. De wijnen worden niet overgestoken en gaan twee maanden voor de botteling over op cuves. De wijnen kenmerken zich door hun pure fruit, ze zijn sterk terroir gedomineerd en bezitten een grote elegantie. Sinds enkele jaren zijn de wijnen van Fourrier bijzonder gevraagd en inmiddels geniet Fourrier een absolute sterrenstatus. Allen Maedows noemde hem vorig jaar nog de meest talentvolle jonge producent van de hele Côte de Nuits.

Gevrey-Chambertin "Vieille Vigne", Jean-Marie Fourrier 2009
De Gevrey-Chambertin “Vieille Vigne” is afkomstig van een perceel met oude stokken op de akker Champs Perrières in Brochon. Antonio Galloni: “The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin floats on the palate in its finessed, well-articulated fruit. Subtle and ethereal through to the finish, the wine captures the essence and nobility of Gevrey. With time in the glass the fruit turns darker and the wine puts on weight, showing tons of pedigree and dazzling overall harmony. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029”.

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes, Jean-Marie Fourrier 2009
John Gilman: “I really tasted some elegant young vintages of Cherbaudes in 2009, which can often start out life a bit “weedy” in profile in certain vintages, but this is a vineyard that seems to have really taken on the elegant side of the 2009 vintage. The nose on the 2009 Fourrier Cherbaudes is excellent, as it offers up a very lovely and refined blend of cherries, blood orange, mustard seed, complex soil tones, a gentle touch of meatiness and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very sappy at the core, with lovely purity and focus, refined tannins and superb length and grip on the classy finish. Much like the Gruenchers, this wine will drink well fairly early on in its evolution, but I would try to exercise a bit of patience and allow the secondary layers to emerge. A lovely vintage of Cherbaudes.

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe aux Moines, Jean-Marie Fourrier 2009
Burghound: Soft floral notes add nuance and breadth to the ripe and pretty red berry fruit and earth aromas that precede the powerful, concentrated and focused middle weight plus flavors that culminate in a balanced, focused and beautifully precise and mildly austere finish. This displays plenty of underlying tension and there is a lovely sense of overall harmony here. Outstanding!"

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques, Jean-Marie Fourrier 2009
John Gilman: "The Clos St. Jacques was quite closed and still a bit agitated from its recent racking at the time of my December visit, but its quality is unmistakable. The nose offers up scents of red and black cherries, great minerality, coffee, grilled meats, smoke, mustard seed and just a hint of new wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and structured, with lovely mid-palate depth, ripe tannins and fine length and grip on the youthful finish. Expect this wine to rate at the high end of the range. 2018-2050.
